Nice combination use of the 1 cent 1861 and 2 cent blackjack (#73)
to pay first class postage on a New Haven CT
to New Milford CT cover. Pencil date of 1863 is viable but no contents to confirm. Double circle postmark; two strikes of fancy cancel (star of david or 6 pointed star); "care Washington stage" endorsement. Slight roughness at right from opening. $90

Pretty example of the Madison, Indiana star cancel from the mid 1860s on a 24-cent 1861 issue, Scott 78, used to Dundalk, Ireland. "July 65" docketing. Town name clear but state didn't ink; clear red New York British Packet marking with "paid 19" at bottom; Dundalk receiver on back with some pencil annotations and hinge marks in corners; apparently out of one of the 1941 Knapp sales. New PSAG cert erroneously states the cover is used to "Iceland". I wish it was....but it's Ireland, not Iceland. SOLD

Nice 30 cent 1861 issue, Scott 71, from Cincinnati Ohio to Germany. Stamp at lower left with bold postmark; New York br. Packet marking with "24" rate at upper right; German marking at top along with some rate markings; address to Saxony. Some soiling and staining; cover is trimmed at top, which is apparent from backflap - elaborate text printed on back along wtih some extra transit markings. 2018 Scott on cover is $380. 2017 PSAG cert notes toning and staining. SOLD

[y1394]
Nice example of the scarce 3 cent C grill, Scott 83, on cover from South Danvers MA to Keene NH. Double circle handstamp on small cover with segmented cork; stamp is centered to the right and low but a very presentable example. Scott $1300 on cover (vs $1100 for the stamp alone). 2017 PSAG cert indicates genuine use. SOLD

[y1395] Pretty example of the E grill 2 cent blackjack, Scott 87,
on a folded circular from the Board of Assessors sent within Buffalo NY in 1868. Mostly clear CDS and cork on stamp; tied; stamp centered low with clear grill. 2017 PSAG certificate. $200

Attractive 1 cent E grill, Scott 86, on cover sent locally within Richmond VA. Postmark at upper left; stamp at upper left; applied inverted, with cork tie. Stamp is centered left but 4 margin. 2017 PSAG cert notes "two small corner creases at upper left". Scott $525 on cover. SOLD

Early 1860s combination use of 1 cent and 3 cent 1861 issues (Scott 63 and 65) on cover from Philadelphia PA
to Newcastle DE. Both stamps tied with black CDS; 1 cent stamp is SE at right. The 1 cent stamp paid the extra penny for "to the mails" carrier service; this would have been picked up by a carrier or more likely left in a collection box for onward transmission. Small part of backflap removed. Nice use. SOLD
